Eliane Correa is a genre-defying Cuban pianist, composer and bandleader, tipped by Gilles Peterson as one of the freshest new sounds to come out of Havana. The strong presence of Afro-Cuban roots and folk music with batá drumming and rumba rhythms is complemented by the newest grooves of contemporary soul and funk, bringing a fresh take on what is “Latin” and what is “jazz”.

Having carved out her career as writer and performer in global urban music collective Wara, Eliane has now released her debut album Rumba Con Flores, a fluid tribute to the past and present sounds of neo-soul, R&B and urban Latino music.

“Ambition, talent to burn and a touch of class.” Songlines

“Effortlessly marries tradition and authenticity with a contemporary edge”  Patrick Forge, Mi Soul

“A singer and pianist with fire in her soul.” John Warr, Afrobase Juice FM

“Redefines some of the innovations currently happening in Cuban music.” Jazzwise review

Opening the evening is The London Lucumi Choir, formed in November 2006 by Afro-Cuban singer extraordinaire Martha Galarraga of the Conjunto Folklorico Nacional de Cuba and musician Daniela Rosselson De Armas, assisted by Dave Pattman (Omo Aña). The choir’s songs to the Orishas are accompanied by traditional batá drums with original arrangements by MD Daniela.

Presented in association with Movimientos.
