UK premiere of this visually arresting, informative and entertaining documentary film exploring Chile’s unique street art tradition, a remix of muralism and graffiti, which has been part of Chilean cultural and political life since the 60s.

Young people took to the streets with political murals all over Chile in the late 60s, at the same time as young people in New York were starting modern graffiti, and May 68 happened in Paris. This form of expression gives voice to previously unheard voices: women, native people and workers.

In Latin America, the wish to promote an art capable of speaking to the many can be traced back to the early twentieth century, and Mexican muralists such as David Alfaro Siqueiros – who painted in Chile, at Chillán in 1940. Street art shares this intention of mass appeal, using city walls as a canvas, part of the dynamic evolution of the city. Artists, without barriers or frontiers, are able to communicate with a wider public.

London-based DJ and producer DJ Raff, a trailblazer in Chile’s hip hop and electronic music scenes, crafted the original soundtrack for Chile Estyle. Drawing from a myriad of influences, he intricately weaves together samples sourced from Andean and Mapuche Indigenous origins and the Afro-Latin diaspora. The result is a captivating fusion of percussive beats and mesmerizing melodies that mirror the diverse settings and the film’s narrative. DJ Raff’s kaleidoscopic rhythms and atmospheric soundscapes propel the movie forward, infusing it with a blend of futuristic vibes and ancestral echoes.
