Guatemalan singer/songwriter Ricardo Arjona has long been a superstar across Latin America, respected for both his social conscience and his integrity in writing and performing. Arjona’s lyrics are observant, nuanced, sometimes wry, sometimes melancholy, and what he does best is heartache with details.
Born in Antigua, he was interested in music from an early age but first worked as a rural schoolteacher whilst playing guitar and writing songs in his spare time.
He has enjoyed twenty five years of success since his breakthrough album Animal Nocturno in 1992. Since then he has changed styles and formats many times from intimate ballads to electric epics, all the while building his audience and winning a string of Grammys.
His songs are full of romance and charm, but also reflect political messages that tackle controversial topics like US intervention in Latin America, and migration.
In April Ricardo releases his new album Circo Soledad and in June plays this, his first ever London show as part of his worldwide tour.
