Critically acclaimed Uruguayan singer-songwriter Jorge Drexler makes his Barbican debut in February 2016, performing with a full band in the UK for the first time.

Drexler, who first came to the attention of a wider audience when his Oscar-winning song Al otro Lado del Río featured in the movie The Motorcycle Diaries, will bring his distinctive blend of traditional Uruguayan song form, Latin rhythms, bossa nova, pop, jazz and electronic music. The charismatic troubadour’s songs are hugely evocative, both melodically and lyrically, and have been covered by artists such as Shakira and Neneh Cherry.

Losing none of the intimacy of his solo performances, his live band – really showcase Drexler’s original arrangements and songs, which reflect on love, identity, race and religion.

Artists as diverse Mercedes Sosa, Omara Portuondo, Ana Belén, Víctor Manuel, Pablo Milanés, Ketama, Miguel Ríos, Ana Torroja, Sole Jiménez, David Broza, Rosario, Jovanotti, María Rita, Simone, Zelia Duncan, Paulinho Moska, Jaime Roos, Adriana Varela, and Bajofondo Tango Club, have recorded Jorge Drexler songs.

Jorge Drexler’s latest album Bailar En La Cueva was released in late March 2014 reaching number 1 in more than 10 countries. It won two Latin Grammys and was nominated for a Grammy.

This is a more rhythmic album, even more danceable, where Drexler plays more than ever with sound and global concepts. With the special participation of many great artists such as; Caetano Veloso, who collaborates in the song Bolivia, Ana Tijoux who raps in Universos Paralelos which was chosen as the first single, Bomba Estereo feature in Bailar en la cueva and the co-production of Eduardo Cabra of Calle 13 in Todo cae.
